The Apple Watch and other modern smartwatches have essentially removed the need for a fitness trackers, except for maybe the market of people that don’t want a full smartwatch on their wrist all of the time. That said, most people are opting for the Apple Watch today over choices from Fitbit, which is why Fitbit is looking for other ways to improve and market its brand. So, that obviously begs the question — what should you buy Apple Watch vs Fitbit Versa? The Fitbit Versa smartwatch or the Apple Watch? Well, there are various aspects to consider first. So, if you follow along below, we’ll pit the Apple Watch Vs Fitbit Versa against each other, and then show you, hopefully, which one comes out on top. So without further ado, here we go:

Design

Apple Watch

The Apple Watch is easily one of the better designed smartwatches on the market today. Sure, it’s essentially a square — which many don’t like the look of — however, it comes in aluminum, stainless steel, and ceramic models at varying price levels. The latter two make the Apple Watch feel like a hefty, luxury watch.

On top of that, the Apple Watch comes in a large variety of colors. Colors depend on the material you get, but the cheapest one, aluminum, comes in Gold, Rose Gold, Space Gray, and Silver.

Of course, you have a ton of customization options as far as bands go. You can swap out your bands for silicone sport bands, for chain link bands, for a Milanese band, for a leather band, and so many more options. The choice is up to you and the style that you have!

The Apple Watch itself comes in a variety of different sizes as well. You can pick it up in 38mm, 44mm, and a few other sizes, depending on how large of a watch you want on your wrist!

You can add some pretty nice designs to the Apple Watch frame itself as well. There are a variety of protective cases that you can buy for it that can add varying levels of color and designs to the device.

Fitbit Versa

And then, we have the Fitbit Versa. The Fitbit Versa has a bit of a larger display on it, and it does have a square appearance.

One of the neat things about the Fitbit Versa is just how many different colors that you can get the smartwatch in. There are options for Silver, Charcoal, Black, Lavender, Marina Blue, Peach, Lilac, and so many more. There’s all different band materials as well.

The nice thing about the Fitbit Versa is that you have some pretty good customization options as well. Fitbit Versa bands are easily swapped out for different alternatives as far as band styles go.

There’s only one size on the Fitbit Versa, which means you don’t have much of a choice as far as sizes of the watch itself goes.

Winner: In terms of design, we think the Apple Watch is the winner here. It has an excellent appearance, and has the weightiness that you would want out of a luxury watch. On top of that, there are tons of customization choices that you can make to make the watch truly yours.

Software

Apple Watch

The Apple Watch has some of the best software found in watches today. It’s arguably better than any other watch software out there today, providing you with a quick, seamless, and easy to use experience.

One of the neat things about the Apple Watch is that it integrates with out iOS products, allowing you to do almost everything that you could on your iPhone, but on your Apple Watch instead. You can leave your in your pocket or in the car this way!

That said, as you can imagine, the Apple Watch can make and take phone calls, send and receive text messages, give you the time, weather, activity goals, show you your heart rate, and so much more.

One of the aspects that we really like about the Apple Watch is its fitness capabilities. It has an app on it called Activity, which helps you watch your steps, exercise goals, and even your stand goals for the day.

One of the neat things about the Apple Watch is is that it runs on Apple’s WearOS platform, which integrates directly into the iOS App Store. That means that you can expand the various functions of the Apple Watch simply by downloading new apps to your iPhone.

If you’re looking at picking up a new Apple Watch — i.e. the Series 4 and above — it actually comes with some pretty unique technology inside that they’re calling “Fall Tracking.” Yes, the Apple Watch will be able to detect if you take a hard fall, and then they’ll automatically call emergency services for you.

Finally, the Apple Watch also comes with its own proprietary contactless payment system called Apple Pay, which lets you make payments without pulling out your wallet or smartphone, though this type of NFC payments are only accepted at retailers and stores with the proper technology to make the payment happen.

Fitbit Versa

The Fitbit Versa obviously isn’t designed to be an Apple Watch. In fact, since the Versa comes from a fitness-focused company, the software is built all around fitness-based features.

In its most basic form, you can track your all-day activity, heart rate, and even sleep stages. On top of that, it comes with over 15 exercise modes, such as Run or Swim, to record workouts. Turning on these exercise modes can help you to give you more precise tracking of your pace, distance, and calories burned.

Of course, the Fitbit Versa is more than just fitness features. Like the Apple Watch, you have the ability to get notifications for phone calls and texts when your phone is nearby. If you’re running an Android device, you can actually send quick replies, too.

There are a variety of app notifications that you get on your Fitbit Versa as well. Access your favorite apps for sports, weather, calendar, text, and more.

Fitbit also has something called SmartTrack inside, allowing you to automatically track select sports and workouts. Uniquely, there’s a female health tracking in the Fitbit app to log periods, symptoms and more, too.

Fitbit Versa also comes with its own proprietary contactless payment system called Fitbit Pay, which lets you make payments without pulling out your wallet.

Winner: The Apple Watch wins in Software capability as well. While the Fitbit and the Apple Watch have many of the same features, the Apple Watch has better, all around calling and texting features, as well as better integration with the iPhone.

Hardware

Apple Watch

We’re not told all of the intricacies of Apple’s hardware, but the Apple Watch does have a handful of notable hardware-based features. For one, you get a heart rate monitor, which lets you keep track of your heart rate during intense exercise, throughout the day, and to simply observe irregularities.

The Apple Watch comes with a GPS, which gives you more precise pace tracking, as well as the ability to track your route during runs or jogs.

There’s an improved accelerometer and gyroscope for fall detection, a large display, a loud speaker, and waterproofing capabilities so that you can use it in the shower, during a light swim, or simply walking or running when it’s wet out!

There’s up to 18 hours of battery life on a single charge, but it does charge quite quickly.

Fitbit Versa

One of the neat things about the Fitbit Versa is that it’s completely enclosed, making it swim-proof for up to 50 meters. It has a heart-rate sensor to watch your heart rate during workouts.

Naturally, there’s a number of sensors and trackers built-in to help you track your steps and activities throughout the day. They might actually be a tad more robust than the Apple Watch, allowing you to track individual exercises.

The Fitbit Versa actually has a battery that can last up to four days, which can help you with things like sleep tracking.

Winner: We believe it’s a tie between Apple Watch vs Fitbit Versa. Both have impressive technology, but the hardware inside is designed to meet different needs. The Apple Watch wants to be your day-to-day watch, but the Fitbit Versa, despite coming in a smartwatch design, wants to be your go-to for everything fitness.

Verdict

If it wasn’t quite clear that the Apple Watch was the way to go before, it is now. The Apple Watch won two out of three of our rounds, and coming in at a tie in the last.

If you’re looking for something that can be your day-to-day watch, your fitness watch, and a piece of jewelry that looks nice at work or during a night out on the town, the Apple Watch is for you.
