How to connect Apple Watch 4 to WiFi

You would be able to connect your Apple Watch 4 to WiFi if your iPhone isn’t nearby. But unlike smartphones, it doesn’t have the luxury to connect to any frequency but 2.4 GHz. So, even if there are available networks in the area, you may not still be able to connect to them due to compatibility issue between the network and your watch. Nevertheless, it’s good that your watch has this feature as it will be useful somehow.

Your Apple Watch can connect to a Wi-Fi network:

  • If your iPhone, while connected to your watch with Bluetooth, has connected to the network before.
  • If the Wi-Fi network is 802.11b/g/n 2.4GHz.

Your Apple Watch 4 won’t connect to 5GHz Wi-Fi or public networks that require logins, subscriptions, or profiles.
Here’s how to connect your Apple Watch 4 to a WiFi network…

  1. Open the Settings app on your Apple Watch.
  2. Tap Wi-Fi. Your device automatically searches for networks.
  3. Tap the name of the network that you want to join. Your Apple Watch can only connect to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi networks.
  4. If asked, enter the password with Scribble. To change a scribbled character, turn the Digital Crown to see more options like uppercase or lowercase.
  5. Tap Join.
