iPhone X keeps showing No Service and won’t connect to the network

With its topnotch software as well as amazing hardware, the iPhone X is a fusion of near perfect software and hardware. Fix #1: Reboot your iPhone X

A lot of minor problems are fixed by doing a simple step: restart. This easy but often overlooked solution works by turning the system off in a moment. Some bugs thrive after the system has been up and running for a long time. If you’ve been using your iPhone X non-stop for a while now, it may be a good time to give it a brief respite even for just a second.

Restarting your iPhone X is easy. Here’s how:

  1. Press and hold the Side button and either volume button until the slider appears.
  2. Drag the slider to turn your iPhone X completely off.*
  3. After your iPhone X turns off, press and hold the Side button again until you see the Apple logo.

To interrupt any developing bug, we you can also try to force reboot the device by pressing and quickly releasing the Volume Up button. Once you’ve done that, you can then press and quickly release the Volume Down button. Then, press and hold the Side button until you see the Apple logo.

Fix #2: Check Airplane Mode

If your iPhone had been working normally before it kept showing No Service, that’s probably because you inadvertently turned Airplane Mode on. While in this mode, all of your iPhone’s network functions like wifi, cellular data and Bluetooth are disabled. This is a useful feature especially if you’re traveling by plane, or if you simply want to turn off the internet connection to stop ads, prevent going over your cellular data limit, among others. To check Airplane Mode, follow these steps:

  1. Slide your finger downwards starting from the top right side of the screen.
  2. Tap the Airplane Mode icon to switch it off or on.
  3. To return to the home screen, just slide your finger upwards starting from the bottom of the screen.

Fix #3: Check if there’s pending iOS updates

Updates bring a lot of advantages. In most cases, they include patches for known bugs as well as new under-the-hood changes. Whether you have an issue or not, it’s ideal to always install updates whenever they become available. By default, your iPhone X should download and install updates on its own but if you changed this setting previously, make sure to regularly check under Settings > General > Software update for any new iOS version or its improvements.

Fix #4: Reset network settings

Resetting your iPhone’s network settings is almost always part of the troubleshooting package whenever there’s any network problem. This issue is not an exception so be sure to do it if your device continues to say No Service. To reset network settings, follow these steps:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Tap Reset.
  4. Tap Reset Network Settings.

Fix #5: Check time and date

Some users were able to find success troubleshooting No Service issue on their iPhones before by merely changing the date and time to the correct one. If you tend to change your device’s date and time for some reason, make sure that you revert the correct date and time to see what happens.

Fix #6: Toggle mobile data

Turning mobile or cellular data on and off had also been known to fix minor networking bugs before. For some reason, some cases of iPhone networking problems tend to be associated with cellular data. If you haven’t tried it yet, be sure to do it before doing any other troubleshooting steps below.

Fix #7: Reseat the SIM card

Removing and re-inserting the SIM card sometimes also work in fixing network problems as it has an effect of resetting your device’s network configuration. We’ve noticed this trick to work in GSM phones but it might as well work even on CDMA mobile devices. It’s a simple and easy trick so don’t forget to try it. Just be sure to turn your iPhone off before removing and inserting it.

Fix #8: Reset all settings

The next good thing to do in this case is to reset all your device’s settings. This is tad drastic since this will reset your personal preferences and network settings. This won’t delete your personal data like photos, videos, etc though so you don’t have to worry about losing files.

Fix #9: Factory reset

Factory reset should be the ultimate troubleshooting step that you can do in this case. As the name suggests, this step will return all software settings of your iPhone back to their factory version. If the cause of the problem is an operating system bug, doing this might help. Make sure to create a backup of your personal data first.

To factory reset your iPhone X, follow these steps:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Tap Reset.
  4. Tap Erase All Content and Settings.
  5. If prompted, enter your passcode.
  6. Tap Erase iPhone.

Once the device has been reset, set your iPhone as a new device instead of restoring it from backup.

Fix #10: Tap or drop the phone

A seemingly illogical but effective trick that older iPhone models used to do to fix No Service issue is by tapping the phone to solid object or even dropping the device from a short height. It’s called a “drop test”While we don’t certainly recommend you do it on your expensive iPhone, we want to include it here just to let you know that some iPhone 6 and iPhone 7 users found this trick successful. Giving your iPhone’s hardware a shock by dropping it or tapping it against a wall might damage the device so we’ll understand if you have reservations doing this one. Basically, these are the steps that you want to do to do this trick:

  1. Put your iPhone in its protective case.
  2. Turn off your iPhone.
  3. Remove the SIM card.
  4. Drop your iPhone on a desk from 6 to 12-inch high.
  5. Re-insert the SIM card.
  6. Reboot your iPhone.

Remember, this is an unguaranteed trick and can seriously damage your iPhone X. you should only try this trick if you have no other choice, or if your device is already no longer in warranty. Otherwise, just skip it and contact Apple support. Your phone may have a hardware malfunction or failure and needs professional help to get it fixed.
