How to move files from an iPhone to SD card

The internal memory space of an iPhone will eventually shrink regardless of how huge it is at first. The more apps and files you add, the more memory is consumed. To evade from performance issues from insufficient storage, freeing up memory space is recommended. And this is when backups are created. Backing up of files from an iPhone can be carried out in various ways. You can use the traditional iOS file manager iTunes or resort to third-party iOS file managers to move different types of files including photos, music, messages, videos and other contents from the iPhone to a computer or SD card as backup.

The following steps demonstrate the entire process of moving files from an iPhone to an SD card using a third-party iOS file manager. Read on to learn how it’s done.

To get started, you will need to download and install your preferred iOS file manager on your computer. For this tutorial, we will use Tenorshare iCareFone as an example. Let us just assume that you’ve already downloaded and installed the software on your computer, so we can get started with the file transfer. Simply refer to these steps:

  1. Run or launch the Tenorshare iCareFone on your computer.
  2. Connect both your iPhone and SD card to your computer. You may need to use an SD card reader for your SD card.
  3. When your iPhone and SD card are connected, click on File Manager from the main screen.
  4. Then select Videos as the target file type. Among other available files to move using this software are photos, music, contacts, messages, apps, books, and bookmarks to name some.
  5. Wait until all video previews are loaded. You can also preview the videos before transferring them.
  6. Mark the checkbox before each video clips/title that you want to move or transfer to your SD card.
  7. After marking all video clips to transfer, click the Export button. Doing so will launch a pop-up screen prompting you to choose or specify the save path or destination.
  8. Select the SD card as the target location for saving your videos then follow the onscreen commands to begin the file transfer.

Move files from an iPhone to an SD card using AutoPlay on Windows PC

If you’re using a Windows computer for the file transfer, then you can use AutoPlay to transfer files from your iPhone to your SD card. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Connect your iPhone and SD card to your computer. The AutoPlay screen will then pop-up automatically.
  2. From the Apple iPhone AutoPlay screen, click the option to Open device to view files. Doing so will take you to the iPhone storage menu wherein you can see videos and photos in it.
  3. Select the videos you want to move and drag them to the SD card quickly.
  4. Follow the same method until you’re done moving all other files from your iPhone to your SD card.

Another way to move files from your iPhone to your SD card is through iPhoto on your Mac computer. With iPhoto, you can import videos from your iOS device straight to the SD card. Here’s how it works:

  1. Connect both your iPhone and SD card to your Mac computer.
  2. When connected, select your iPhone from the Devices section then navigate to iPhoto library and then select the video files you want to export.
  3. Click the Import Selected button to transfer videos to iPhoto.
  4. Next, click on File then select Export.
  5. Set the SD card as the exporting destination in your Mac computer.
  6. Finally tap the Export button to confirm.

Wait for your device to finish exporting the files to your SD card and then you can disconnect it from the computer when done.

If you’re having trouble moving files from your iPhone to your SD card, check and ensure that the SD card is properly seated on your computer and that it’s not corrupted. If necessary, format your SD card before storing files in it.
