5 Best iPhone XS Alternative In 2018

Apple announced the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max to much excitement. Apple’s new line of smartphones signify a new direction the company is heading in, though not everyone is entirely sure about jumping on that bandwagon. This is because, as far as hardware goes, there isn’t too much difference between last year’s iPhone X and this year’s new smartphones. The biggest difference between this and last year are larger displays, phones, and price increase across the board.

Naturally, consumers are having trouble justifying whether it’s worth the upgrade this year or if they should wait until next year’s release. Of course, if you’re not a big fan of the iPhone XS and what it has to offer, you do have other alternatives on the market, on the iOS and Android spectrum, too.

So if you’re insistent on upgrading your phone this year, be sure to follow along with us below — we’ll show you the best iPhone XS alternatives on the market right now.

Apple iPhone X

If you like Apple’s iPhone XS and XS Plus, but don’t like the heavy price point of the two, then you might want to consider picking up last year’s hardware: the iPhone X. While it may have launched last year, this smartphone is still impressive in 2018, and the hardware runs just as fast. The iPhone X is on the A11 Bionic chip, so it’s still able to handle almost anything you throw at it.

Apple did announce at their conference that they were discontinuing the iPhone X after just a year of sales to make room for the iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Plus. However, you can still snag the smartphone from online retailers — you just can’t get it from the carriers. The iPhone X really is a good choice for this year, simply because there aren’t too many hardware differences.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9

Maybe you’re tired of Apple iOS ecosystem and you want to get out and see what else the mobile world has to offer. In that case, you might want to give Android a try with the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 smartphone. This is a unique smartphone with a dual-curved display that bring some interesting features to the mix, such as People Edge and other Edge functions. It provides a pretty unique perspective when watching video and viewing websites, too. One of the more unique aspects of the Galaxy Note 9 is that it has its own stylus. So in addition to the Edge functions, you get a bunch of S-Pen functions as well. This makes it easier to jot down notes on the go, as well as access other functions on the smartphone that are just easier with a stylus!

LG G7 ThinQ

Believe it or not, Android does offer a smartphone that’s similar to the iPhone X, at least in design and screen size. That phone is the LG G7 ThinQ. In it, you get an absolutely beautiful 6.1-inch display. It even has a “notch” in the screen that you can turn on or off, if you so choose. It packs face recognition technology inside it that will allow you to unlock your phone — it just isn’t secure enough to replace passwords or provide payment verification.

The one con that many have with this smartphone is that battery life could be better, but other than that, it’s an excellent phone.

iPhone 8 Plus

Most folks just aren’t a big fan of the new style that the iPhone is taking on and would rather go back to the traditional design. That said, the iPhone 8 Plus makes a great alternative to the iPhone XS, even in 2018. It still has fast hardware that will be able to handle the demands that applications have in 2018 — in fact, it can handle even the most high-end smartphone games. Those who didn’t like the switch to the iPhone X style will love the physical home button you can press in the iPhone 8 Plus, not only that, but you’ll have access to a fingerprint scanner again with that home button being there.

The iPhone 8 Plus has some pretty impressive battery life, too. You shouldn’t have an issue with this phone lasting all day long.

Google Pixel 2

Love Apple hardware? Then you might want to see what Google hardware looks like in the Google Pixel 2. The Pixel 2 is essentially everything that Google pictured Android to be, giving you a “clean” Android experience with top of the line hardware. The Pixel 2 is pretty unique in comparison to the iPhone X, but you still get your traditional home button and fingerprint scanner setup. Pixel 2’s are Unlocked, so you can take them to almost any carrier, and they come with a large and efficient battery that’ll keep the smartphone running well into the night. Current tests are even saying that the Pixel 2’s 12.2-megapixel camera still takes better photos than the new dual camera setup in the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Plus.

Verdict

If you don’t like what the iPhone XS has to offer, you have a lot of different options available to you — if you’re looking for the best of the best off of this list, you cannot go wrong with the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 or Google Pixel 2. If you want to stick with iOS, last year’s iPhone X and iPhone 8 Plus aren’t bad options either.
