Tip #1: Restart your iPhone X regularly
Any computer, which includes smartphones like your iPhone X, can benefit a lot from regular restarts. Some bugs occur after a system has been running for a long time or when the battery has encountered performance error due to prolonged use. In order to stop the problem code from continuing, you can simply restart the system. Tip #3: Control yourself
Admit it, you can’t seem to let your device rest when it’s new or just updated to a new operating system version. By constantly unlocking the screen and tinkering with it, you’re effectively draining the battery faster. If your day requires you to constantly your phone, then you should do some moves to conserve the battery like lowering down the brightness level of the screen, turning down sound notifications, avoiding putting the device on vibrate, setting app sync settings to manual, etc. Just bear in mind that everything that you do requires power so the more you use your device, the more likely it leaks power so don’t expect the battery to last long.
Tip #4: Use Battery Life Suggestions (under Settings)
iOS regularly monitor your usage patterns in order to give you suggestions on how to conserve battery power. Starting with iOS 10, Apple introduced Battery Life Suggestions feature so their device will now recommend to the user what specific step can be done to tone down power consumption. For instance, if you are the type who tend to use the screen on full brightness, Battery Life Suggestions may recommend that you lower screen brightness to lower down battery use everyday. It’s a simple feature but a useful one if you don’t know where to start in your quest for better battery performance.
In order to access Battery Life Suggestions:
- Open Settings app.
- Tap Battery.
- Under Battery Life Suggestions, your iPhone will present settings to change that will improve battery life. You can tap on each suggestion to jump to the setting that needs changing.
If you don’t want to make the change, at least you know it’s contributing to your battery drain.
Tip #5: Disable Background App Refresh
Background App Refresh is a feature that allows apps to work in the background in order to fetch new contents from remote servers. While it certainly has its use, it can also be a contributing factor why your iPhone may be losing battery fast. Background App Refresh feature works whenever your device is online (either via wifi or mobile data) and it’s turned by default. This feature is necessary for apps that often requires updates like navigation apps, weather apps, or messaging apps. However, if you too many apps and you allow Background App Refresh for all of them, this can leave the system running all the time, not to mention using your precious mobile data bandwidth. We recommend that you only use this feature for select apps that absolutely need to get updates. Otherwise, just turn it off and simply get new contents for apps manually when you use them. To access Background App Refresh:
- Open Settings.
- Tap General.
- Select Background App Refresh.
- Toggle off Background App Refresh.
Background App Refresh feature may be turned on after installing updates so be sure to check on it from time to time so you turn it off again.
Tip #6: Turn off Location Services
Location Services, like Background App Refresh, can be a useful feature but again, it can also be a reason why your device may be losing battery power fast. Location Services is useful for some apps and services only so if you’re running low on battery juice in a day, you might want to turn this off.Location Services uses GPS and Bluetooth (where they’re available), along with crowd-sourced Wi-Fi hotspots and cellular towers to determine the approximate location of your device. If a lot of apps use it all the time, it can significantly consume a lot of power. To turn Location Services on or off for specific apps, follow these steps:
- Go to Settings>Privacy>Location Services.
- Make sure that Location Services is on.
- Scroll down to find the app.
- Tap the app and select an option:
- Never: Prevents access to Location Services information.
- While Using the App: Allows access to Location Services only when the app or one of its features is visible on screen. If an app is set to While Using the App, you might see your status bar turn blue with a message that an app is actively using your location.
- Always: Allows access to your location even when the app is in the background.
Once you’ve customized locations service feature, apps should tell why it may need the feature again. Keep in mind that some apps may need location service feature in order to work so you may only find two options.
Tip #7: Use Low Power Mode
Low Power Mode is a drastic solution that you can use if you don’t think that you’ll not be able to charge soon and you need to stretch your phone use for as long as possible. Low Power Mode works by tuning down your phone’s processing power and the entire system in general. The slow down is done under-the-hood and you shouldn’t notice it unless you conduct advanced performance tests. Low Power Mode can slow down the system by about 40% and it also disables unnecessary features like the following:
- Email fetch
- “Hey Siri”
- Background app refresh
- Automatic downloads
- Some visual effects
- Auto-Lock (defaults to 30 seconds)
- iCloud Photo Library (temporarily paused)
To enable Low Power Mode, follow these steps:
- Open Settings.
- Tap Battery.
- Toggle Low Power Mode on.
