Basically, an iPhone 8 user is wondering what to do after discovering that his device refuses to boot up normally while constantly freezing. Problem: iPhone 8 Plus freezes and won’t boot up
My iPhone 8 Plus is frozen. I tried the advice you gave on your site ( Press and quickly release the Volume Up button. Press and quickly release the Volume Down button. Then, press and hold the Side button until you see the recovery-mode screen). I did just that ( and I was able to Update it but after the Update, it went back into freeze mode with the apple logo and a white background). after the whole process the iPhone is still frozen. But if I reset it to the factory, it works again but slow and if I power it off and power it on again it freezes back again. But I noticed all this after when I updated to the new IOS firmware (the Update was like 1week ago, so i don’t know if it has something to do with it or not). The IOS Version is 12.1 now om my plus 8 FYI. Anyway if you guys can help out that will really help full. Thanks.
Solution: If your iPhone 8 Plus does work after a factory reset albeit at a slower pace, the cause of the problem is probably deeper. It can also be an app issue, which is why the problem returns after some time.
To see if the issue is due to an app, try to factory reset your iPhone 8 Plus again. Here’s how:
- Tap Settings from the Home screen.
- Select General.
- Scroll down to and then tap Reset.
- Select the option to Erase all contents.
- Enter your device passcode when asked to continue.
- Tap the option to confirm full system reset.
Now that the phone has been wiped, set it up as a new device and don’t install apps to it. Instead, use the phone for at least 24 hours to see if there’s any difference. If it works normally throughout the observation period, that’s a confirmation that you have an app issue.
If you recently installed an app prior to noticing the problem, try to erase that app from the system and observe how it works again. If you have no idea which of your apps to check, use the method of elimination to narrow down the suspected ones. That means you have to exert effort in uninstalling apps individually and checking for the problem after each uninstall. This can take time if you have lots of apps but it’s the only way to identify the problem app.
DFU Mode Restore
If your iPhone 8 Plus has the same problem right after you factory reset it, it’s possible that there may be a firmware bug behind it. To restore the default firmware for your device, you can do a DFU Mode Restore. Here’s how:
- Connect your iPhone 8 to your computer using the USB or Lightning cable that comes with it.
- Open iTunes on your computer.
- Turn off your iPhone 8 as you normally do. In iOS 11, you can turn off your iPhone by going to Settings-> General-> Shut Down menu-> then toggle the slider to the right. Doing so turns off the iPhone.
- Press and hold the Side button (Power button) for 3 seconds. Then, press and hold the Volume Down button while still holding down the Side button. Keep holding both buttons for 10 seconds.
- If the Apple logo appears, it means that you have held the buttons for too long. If this happens, you need to go back from the very start. Otherwise, skip to the next step.
- Release the Side button but keep holding down the Volume Down button for about 5 seconds more.
- If you are prompted with the Plug into iTunes screen, it means that you have entered Recovery Mode instead. So you’ll need to go back to the very first step and make sure you’re not holding the buttons for so long.
- If your iPhone 8 screen remains black, that means your device has successfully entered DFU mode. iTunes will then prompt you with an alert message saying that it has detected your iPhone and will allow it to be restored. Follow the onscreen instructions to restore your iPhone 8 in iTunes.

If none of the solutions above work, or if you’ve already tried them before contacting us, then the problem must be beyond your ability to fix.
