How to fix iPhone 8 Plus with Facebook that keeps crashing

Before you start performing any of the given solutions below, turn your Wi-Fi off and then back on. Sometimes, network problems affect certain app’s stability especially the ones that require Internet access like Facebook. If the network isn’t stable, then it’s also possible for apps like Facebook to encounter errors or eventually crash as it couldn’t reach the server at some point. To make sure this isn’t what’s causing Facebook to crash more often on your iPhone 8 Plus, just restart your Internet connection by toggling Wi-Fi off for a few seconds and then on again. If the problem on Facebook app continues with a stable Internet connection on your device, then it’s time to move on and try these subsequent solutions.

First solution: Quit Facebook and other background apps on your iPhone 8 Plus.

Background apps are necessary when it comes to multitasking and reloading of similar apps on the phone. But there’s a tendency that any of these background apps would crash and when that happens, other apps functions on your iPhone might as well be affected. You can clear the all your background apps to make sure none of them is causing conflict with the Facebook app. So here’s what you should do then:

  1. Quickly press the Home button twice (double-tap). Doing so will show up the apps viewer screen with a lost of recently used apps.
  2. Swipe your finger up on the Facebook app to clear/close it.

Do the same to the rest of your apps that are running in the background.

Second solution: Restart your iPhone 8 Plus (soft reset/forced restart).

Should the problem with your Facebook app that often crashes is triggered by some minor glitches on the app or iPhone system itself, performing a soft reset or simply restarting the iPhone can help fix it. If you haven’t already, then do so with these steps:

  1. Press and hold the Side/Power button for a few seconds or until the Slide to Power Off menu appears.
  2. Drag the slider to the right to turn your phone completely off.
  3. After about 30 seconds, press and hold the Side/Power button again until  the Apple logo appears.

Alternatively, you can restart your iPhone 8 Plus through Settings-> General-> Shut Down menu. The turn it back on after a few seconds. Either way can help give your phone a clean fresh start afterwards.

You can expect all  your iPhone data stored in the internal memory of your device to remain intact after the process because a soft reset or reboot doesn’t affect any of this information.

Third solution: Update Facebook update (if applicable).

Installing updates for your apps or iPhone software is highly recommended to keep them optimized and secured. Aside from new features and system enhancements, software updates also contain fix patches to address any existing problems on certain apps or device itself that are inflicted by some bugs. To check if there’s any update available for Facebook or other apps on your iPhone 8 Plus, just follow these steps:

  1. Tap the App Store icon from the Home screen.
  2. Tap the Updates icon at the bottom right of the screen. If an update is available for Facebook, you will see Update next to the app. The same thing with your other apps that have new updates to install.
  3. Tap the Update button next to Facebook or other app to update individually.
  4. For multiple apps updates, tap the Update All button to update all apps at once.

After updating your apps, restart your iPhone then retry loading Facebook to see if it is already working fine and stable.

Fourth solution: Update your iPhone to the latest iOS version.

As mentioned earlier, software updates can help address device issues that are attributed to system bugs and software glitches on the iPhone. That being said, it’s also worth a shot to install new updates for your device.

To check for available software update for your iPhone 8 Plus, head over to Settings-> General-> Software Update.

An update notification will show up if a new update is available. Before implementing the update, be sure to back up all your iPhone data for safekeeping. Also ensure that your device is sufficiently charged and has active Wi-Fi Internet connection. Then follow the onscreen instructions to start downloading and installing the new software on your device.

Fifth solution: Uninstall and reinstall Facebook app on your iPhone 8 Plus.

Your last option if all prior methods failed to fix the problem and Facebook app is still crashing on your iPhone is to remove the app completely then download and install the latest Facebook app version available for iOS 11 (or later) devices. So here’s what to do then:

  1. Tap and hold on the Facebook icon from the Home screen.
  2. When you see all the icons start to wiggle, tap the X on the corner of Facebook app icon. Doing so will instigate deletion of the app.
  3. Tap Delete to confirm action.

After you have successfully removed Facebook, reboot your iPhone then open the App Store to search for, download and install the latest version of Facebook app on your device. Everything should work smoothly afterwards for as long as the Facebook app installation is successful. But if that doesn’t help either, then it’s time to escalate the problem for further assistance.
