How to troubleshoot iPhone 7 wifi “no internet connection” error

Fixing wifi issues usually involve checking several things. This is the only way to know if the issue is user-fixable or not. For you, this means doing a set of troubleshooting steps to see if you’ll be able to do something about it or not.

Ensure that your home wifi is working

Before you start troubleshooting your iPhone, make sure that your wifi is actually working. If you have another wireless device like a laptop or another iPhone, make sure that you use it to check if you have internet connection. Try running a quick speedtest to also determine if your wifi speed is fast enough. You want to ensure that your internet speed is adequate to allow you actually use it on your iPhone 7.

Restart your networking devices

If your wifi has no internet in the first place, or if its speed is slow, that’s probably because the networking devices like modem or router needs a restart. When restarting your devices, make sure to turn them off for at least 30 seconds first before turning them back on. Don’t forget to also restart your iPhone after you restart your modem/router.

Turn on wifi on your iPhone 7

Making sure that your iPhone’s wifi switch is turned on may be basic but it’s also essential. Make sure that your device’s wifi is not OFF before you do anything drastic.

Re-enter wifi passcode

Reset iPhone’s Network Settings

If re-adding your wifi to the device won’t help at all, the next good thing to do is to clear your iPhone’s current network. There may be a misconfiguration somewhere so it’s good if you clear them out. Resetting your iPhone’s network settings means you’ll be deleting network customizations, VPN settings, wifi and wifi passcodes, as well as some mobile data configurations. Don’t worry, this reset will only affect network settings so your personal data will be safe.

  1. Tap Settings.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Swipe to the bottom and tap Reset.
  4. Tap Reset Network Settings.
  5. If prompted whether to proceed, go ahead.

Install updates

Whether you’re experiencing problems or not, it’s always a good idea never to skip updates. And we’re talking about app and iOS updates, folks. By default, iPhones are set to download and install apps but if you changed this setting before, be sure to manually check for updates. Updates not only bring improvements but also patches for known bugs.

Erase All Content and Settings

If your iPhone is still unable to use wifi and continues to show “no internet connection” error, wiping your device and starting from scratch should not be a bad idea. Also known as factory reset, this procedure will erase your personal data like photos, videos, etc. Make sure to create an iTunes or iCloud backup before you do it.

  1. Tap Settings.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Swipe to the bottom and tap Reset.
  4. Tap Erase All Content and Settings.
  5. You’ll be asked to confirm that you really want to do this. Confirm and proceed with the reset.

Connect to another network

If your iPhone remains hopelessly unable to connect to your home wifi, try to see if it still capable of connecting to another network. If it can, then that means that the problem has something to do with your own network and not your iPhone. To fix the problem, contact your Internet Service Provider and ask them for support.

Contact Apple

If your iPhone won’t connect to any wifi network at all, that’s a clear indication that it may have an unknown software issue or a hardware malfunction. In either of these situations, you need help from Apple Service Center so needless to say, you need to contact them. Your iPhone may need a repair that you local Apple Service Center can do. If they’ll be unable to fix it, they’ll most likely send you a new one.
