Find my iPhone is an extremely great tool that Apple has bundled in all of its hardware products. If you ever lose one of your Apple devices, it’s easy to just open up the Find My iPhone app, put it in Lost Mode, and make it remotely ring so that you can hear and see if it’s around you. It’ll also show you a GPS map of where your device was last seen. Of course, it’ll only show you where it’s last seen if it’s been connected to the Internet.
However, there are some people who don’t like Find My iPhone. It can take up a lot of battery life because it uses the GPS constantly, and there are others that just don’t like the tracking features of the service. But, on top of that, if you’re getting ready to sell one of your Apple devices, you want to make sure that Find My iPhone is turned off.
So if you want to turn off Find My iPhone, be sure to follow along below — we’ll show you how you can shut it down in just a couple of steps.
Turn Off Find My iPhone
Turning off Find My iPhone is quite easy. You just need to make sure that you have your Apple ID password on hand.
First, open up your Settings app, and then tap on your name. A list of devices will appear, and you’ll want to choose the one that we’re removing from Find My iPhone. Once you tap on the device that you want to remove, such as your iPhone, you’ll be prompted to enter your Apple ID password. Type it in, and press Accept.
In some cases, Apple will have you answer a couple of security questions afterwards. There’s usually two to answer. Answer these, and then press the Verify button in the top right corner.
Once you’re in, you’ll want to click on the section that says Find My iPhone. On the next page, tap on the slider that says Find My iPhone. If it’s enabled, the slider will be green. If it’s disabled, the slider will be white/grayed out.
If you’re OK with keeping Find My iPhone on, just don’t like the location tracking, you can simply turn the Send Last Location slider to the off position. Again, it’s enabled if the slider appears green and it’s disabled if the slider is white.
Turning Find My iPhone Back On
If you want to turn Find My iPhone back on, you can simply repeat the steps above, but you’ll want to make sure that the Find My iPhone slider is turned to the On position. Once again, it will be colored green if it’s enabled.
To outline the process, go into Settings, and tap on your name. Select a device that you want to turn Find My iPhone on with, and then log in with your Apple ID. From there, you can turn the Find My iPhone slider back on. And that’s all there is to it!
Remove Apple Watch or AirPods
If you want to remove your Apple Watch or AirPods from your Find My iPhone list, head to www.icloud.com and log in with your Apple ID. Tap on the Find My iPhone app, and then a list of devices that you have connected will appear. Locate your Apple Watch or AirPods, click on one of them, and then under the action bar, simply click on the Remove from Account button.
Apple says if the device ever reappears, you can go into their Bluetooth Settings, reset it and unpair it, and you shouldn’t have a problem with them reappearing on Find My iPhone again, that is, unless you reconnect and repair them with your Apple device or Apple ID.
As you can see, turning off or disabling Find My iPhone is an extremely easy process. You just need to make sure that you have your Apple ID information on hand, as well as those security questions. If you can’t answer the security questions, Apple makes it really easy to reset those during that login process, and then you can immediately go right back to turning Find My iPhone on or off.
