How to fix iPhone X with Netflix app that keeps crashing

Before you begin troubleshooting, verify and ensure that your iPhone X is connected to Wi-Fi or has Internet access. A strong and stable Internet connection is required to have a smooth video streaming through Netflix on your iPhone X. Any transpiring network issues may cause the app to crash especially if it failed to connect to the server. Also ensure that Netflix service is available in your region.

Once you’ve got all the said requisites checked and yet Netflix remains erratic or unstable, try these subsequent solutions.

First solution: Restart Netflix app.

For first instances, minor app glitches or random network errors are likely to blame. Restarting the app will likely be able to fix these glitches and get Netflix back up and running  smoothly again. So try restarting the app with these steps:

  1. Swipe up from the bottom to the middle of your screen and hold until the App Switcher appears.
  2. Swipe left or right to locate Netflix from the apps list.
  3. Firmly touch and hold the Netflix app.
  4. Then tap the Minus (-) sign/icon to clear the app.
  5. Alternatively, you can swipe up to close the Netflix app as soon as you see the minus sign.

If you see other background apps, then close them all too so that none of them can cause any conflict with your iPhone’s Netflix operations.

Second solution: Reboot (soft reset) your iPhone X.

If an app restart doesn’t help, performing a soft reset or restart on your iPhone X should be considered the next option. A soft reset or device restart is a highly recommended solution to minor glitches and errors that are software-related. You don’t have to back up your iPhone data as it will not affect any of them. Random system errors and minor apps issues will likely be cleared by this method. Here’s how a soft reset is done on your iPhone X:

  1. Press and hold the Side/Power button and either Volume button simultaneously for a few seconds.
  2. When you see the Slide to Power off prompt, release the buttons.
  3. Slide the Power switch to the right to turn your phone off.
  4. After 30 seconds or so, press and hold the Side/Power button until the Apple logo appears.

When your iPhone X has booted up completely, launch Netflix again and see if it’s already working properly.

Third solution: Update Netflix app.

Sometimes, all that’s needed to get an app running smooth again is an update. If you haven’t set your device to auto-update apps, then you will need to manually installed apps updates available. Usually you’ll get notifications whenever a new update is available for your app but to make sure you didn’t miss any update notice, go ahead and check for any pending updates for your apps with these steps:

  1. Tap the App Store icon from the Home screen.
  2. On the App Store screen, tap the Updates icon located at the bottom right.
  3. If an update is available for Netflix, an Update button shows up next to the app’s name. Tap on Update to install the latest update for Netflix.
  4. If you see other apps updates available, tap the Update All option to install the updates at once.

Reboot your iPhone X when all updates are completely installed and implemented. This will apply all recent changes from the newly installed app update(s).

Fourth solution: Reset network settings on your iPhone X.

To rule network connectivity issues out from the possible triggers, you can try performing a network settings reset. Should there be any invalid changes made to your network settings that might have caused network-related apps on your iPhone X including Netflix app to become erratic, then that should be cleared in the process. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Tap Settings from the Home screen.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Scroll to and tap Reset.
  4. Select the option to Reset All Settings. This will reset your iPhone settings to their original values without affecting any of your iPhone data. So it doesn’t result to data loss.
  5. To reset all settings on your iPhone X, select the option to Reset all network settings.
  6. If prompted, enter the correct passcode for your device.
  7. Then tap the option to confirm reset.

Your iPhone will restart automatically when the reset is finished. By then you may continue setting up your Wi-Fi network and connect your iPhone to the Internet. When everything is set, launch Netflix and see if it is already working steady.

Fifth solution: Remove and reinstall Netflix app on your iPhone X.

You may have to delete and reinstall the app if the problem continues up to this point. It’s possible that the Netflix app you’re running is corrupted and unrectifiable. In that case, you can delete the erratic app and then download the latest version of Netflix app from the App Store to start all over. Here’s how:

  1. Tap and hold on any app icon on the Home screen for a few seconds.
  2. When you see the icons jiggle, tap the X in the corner of Netflix icon to uninstall or delete the app.
  3. Tap Delete to confirm action.
  4. Restart your iPhone then launch the App Store to search for and download the latest version of Netflix app available for your iPhone X.
  5. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation process and then restart your iPhone X again.

Once the new Netflix app is successfully installed, restart your iPhone X to implement the new changes and then run the new app. It should work as intended for as long as there are no issues with your network connection or Netflix account.

Other options

You may continue to troubleshoot more complex software issues that might have triggered the Netflix app to crash frequently on your iPhone X. If you’ve already tried all prior solutions but to no avail, at this point you may resort to system resets. Performing a master reset or factory reset can be considered among the next possible solutions to fix any system errors that are tough enough to withstand the previous methods. This however would result to data loss as everything in your iPhone X internal memory will be wiped out completely. For safekeeping, don’t forget to create backups beforehand.

Contact the Netflix Help Center, your carrier, or Apple Support for other options if the problem started after installing an update and the factory reset still failed to fix a preinstalled Netflix app on your iPhone X.
