What to do if your iPhone 8 get stuck on boot loop after a reset

Problem #1: iPhone 8 stuck on boot loop after a reset

My iPhone started off by losing cell service, it was really spotty off and on in places where it had always had good service before and then after I tried resetting it, it got stuck in an endless loop of reseting and wouldn’t let me do anything. I finally was able to reset the whole phone and that worked for a day, but now both of the problems are back again. I have tried restarting, updating, taking out the SIM card, everything. Solution: Hi Averycroghan3. While losing signal reception can happen from time to time, it usually fixes itself as long as the issue is from the network side. But since your iPhone has also a more serious boot loop issue, it’s a clear sign that the cause of both must be phone-related. We don’t have your phone’s complete history but boot loop problem does not just occur out of the blue. It’s usually caused by a software modification like when a user tries to jailbreak the device improperly, or when there’s an attempt to unofficially modify the operating system. Sometimes, iPhones can suffer from boot loop issues after a system update too. Still, in other rare incidents, an iOS device may randomly restart because of a bad hardware.

Right now, the only solution that you can try is to see if you can make the phone boot up normally after doing a DFU recovery process. If that won’t help, then you need to contact Apple so they can give you a phone replacement.

To do DFU Recovery on your iPhone 8:

  1. On your computer, close all active apps.
  2. Open iTunes.
  3. Turn off your iPhone 8. If you can’t turn it off normally, let the battery drain to 0% so the phone powers down on its own. Charge the phone for at least an hour without attempting to turn it on.
  4. Connect your iPhone to the computer the charging cable that came with it.
  5. Press and hold the Power button for at least 3 seconds.
  6. Press and hold the Volume Down button on the left side of the iPhone while continuing to hold the Power button. Be sure to hold both Power and Volume Down keys for 10 seconds. If Apple logo appears at this time, repeat steps 5 and 6. Apple logo should not show at all.
  7. Continue to hold Volume Down key for another 5 seconds. If the Plug into iTunes screen is displayed, repeat steps 5-7. Plug into iTunes screen should not show up.
  8. You’ll know that your phone is in DFU mode if the screen remains black. Your computer should then tell you that iTunes has detected an iPhone.
  9. Follow the on-screen steps in your computer to do a full recovery.

Problem #2: iPhone 8 has slow or fast distorted sound during calls

I have an iPhone 8. When I’m on a call intermittently I will have an issue with distorted sound. If I am listening to someone else speak their voice becomes very slow and distorted. If I am the one speaking the other party hears my voice speed up like I’m talking 100 MPH. I have had the phone tested and replaced with a brand new phone from Apple. Even had my SIM card replaced with a new one from Sprint. I travel all across the mid-west and this issue has happened in every city. This is a daily issue and more often than not during every call that lasts longer than a couple of minutes.

Solution: Hi Sam. Voice calling issues like the one you have can be caused by a bad app, software glitch, or bad network service. To know which one of them is the reason, you have to do a set of troubleshooting steps. Below are the ones that should help you isolate the cause.

Restart regularly

You’ve probably done this before you contacted us but in case you haven’t, always make it a point to restart your iPhone regularly, like once every day. If you can’t do that, you can do so a few times in a week. The goal is to allow the device to refresh its system from time to time.

One of the best ways to deal with app issues though is to force reboot your iPhone. It’s similar to a regular restart but it also doubles as an easy way to clear the RAM.

To force restart your iPhone 8:

  1. Press and release the Volume Up button.
  2. Press and release the Volume Down button.
  3. Press and hold Side or Power button until your phone reboots. Once the phone restarts, release the Side button.

Be sure to do the button presses above in quick succession. After pressing and holding the Side button for at least 10 seconds, your iPhone 8 should force reboot.

Force reboot is usually recommended if an iOS device is frozen or has become unresponsive but it can also be performed in this case.

Update apps (and iOS)

One of the often overlooked way to fix app or calling issues is to install updates for apps. Some network-related problems like cellular connectivity or voice calling issues are fixed by updating an iPhone’s modem. Whatever the case is, you should not miss on app or iOS updates. By default, your iPhone should download app and iOS updates but if you changed this behavior before, be sure to manually check for them.

Reset network settings

Some users were able to fix connectivity or calling issues before by resetting their phone’s network settings. If you haven’t done it yet, follow these steps:

  1. Tap Settings to open the app.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Tap Reset.
  4. Select the option to Reset Network Settings.
  5. If prompted, enter the device password.
  6. Confirm action.

Try voice calling without your Bluetooth

In case the issue is caused by your Bluetooth device, try to see what happens during calls when you’re using your phone without it. There may be an unknown app or software glitch that causes delay in transmitting signals between your phone and your Bluetooth earpiece. If calls work normally without the Bluetooth device, that means our hunch is right. Consider getting a new Bluetooth earpiece.

Use another Phone app

If the issue is still there at this point, it might have something to do with your Phone app. Try to find another voice calling app in the App Store and see if it makes a difference when you use it.

Factory reset

If all the steps above won’t help at all, you should consider wiping your phone by doing a factory reset. This will return all software settings back to their defaults as well as delete all user data. Make sure to back your files up before you factory reset your device.

  1. Tap Settings.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Tap Reset.
  4. Select the option to Erase All Content and Settings.
  5. If prompted, enter the correct passcode for your device to continue.
  6. Tap the option to confirm action.

Call your network operator

If your issue persists at this juncture, the problem might only be fixed by your operator. Be sure to let them know of your issue. Don’t forget to mention all the troubleshooting steps you’ve done so far so they’ll know that you’ve covered all phone troubleshooting.
