How to troubleshoot iPhone 7 Plus with no sound after iOS update
Before you start troubleshooting, test to see if your iPhone speaker is working or not. To do so, navigate to Settings-> Sounds or Settings-> Sounds & Haptics, then drag the Ringer and Alerts slider up or down several times.
If you don’t hear any sound, then your speaker might have been damaged and therefore needs service. Otherwise, try these subsequent workarounds to troubleshoot your iPhone software and test the sound after each method.
First solution: Perform a soft reset or reboot your iPhone 7 Plus.
A device restart or soft reset is the recommended last step when making software changes on any device. Doing so clears up the internal memory and refresh the system functions. Any minor glitches from updating will also be cleared in the process. If you haven’t yet restarted your iPhone after updating iOS, then you should do so with these steps:
- Press and hold the Power button for a few seconds until the Slide to Power Off button appears.

Third solution: Turn Bluetooth off, if necessary.
You won’t hear any sound from your iPhone speaker if it’s paired or connected to a Bluetooth-enabled audio device because the audio output will be routed to the latter device. To make sure this is not what’s causing your trouble, turn Bluetooth off on your iPhone 7 Plus to remove pairing and enable audio outputs to the built-in speaker.
