iPhone 7 Plus Cannot Hear Calls
Problem: Sound issue on all my incoming phone calls. Caller can hear my voice just fine, so it doesn’t seem to be the recent mic problem. But I cannot hear them hardly at all. UNTIL I turn the speaker on. This is the only sound problem the phone has. Spent hours troubleshooting alone and with apple reps. Rings clearly, works fine with bluetooth headset, Section on hearing accessibility options made no difference. Extensively cleaned entire phone per apple instructions (qtips, alcohol, toothbrush).BUT THE VOICE MEMO test was helpful. Replayed voice normally with speaker on, but extremely low volume with speaker off. I understand it could be a physical issue with the receiver. BUT…this happened immediately after an update. I wondered if anyone else had this problem and there is a potential for a software fix. Phone is out of warranty. Also, I am pretty handy with these things…videos make replacing the part look doable. Any thoughts? Thanks you so much for your time and expertise. (Also, its ios 11.3.1 as of today).
Solution: To troubleshoot this problem make sure that the phone Bluetooth switch is off. This way you can be sure that the phone is not connecting to a Bluetooth speaker and channeling the sound to that speaker.
If the issue still remains then the next step is to check if this is caused by a software glitch. To do this you will need to restore your phone to its factory settings.
- Make sure to have a backup of your phone data.
- Open iTunes on your computer.
- Connect your phone to your computer.
- If a message asks for your device passcode or to Trust This Computer, follow the onscreen steps.
- Select your phone when it appears.
- In the Summary panel, click Restore
- Click Restore again to confirm. Then iTunes erases your device and installs the latest iOS software.
In case the issue still occurs after this then you should bring the phone to the nearest Apple store and have it checked.
