Problem 1: iPhone 6 loses sound randomly after an update
I have an iPhone 6 that is 14 months old. It has been in an Otter Box Defender case since day 1. It was working perfectly until 3 weeks ago when I installed the 10.3.3. update. Now, I routinely (2 – 3 times daily) lose the sound and have to restart the phone to get it back. Is this a known problem with the release? Other than losing sound several times per day (missing phone calls and text response), that is the only down side to the release that I have.
Also, it can be working (when watching YouTube or something on Facebook and can stop working, and I also notice that when using the microphone to text, that often will cancel the sound as well. — Pat Gough
Solution: Hi Pat. Apple does not release an official list of problems encountered after each iOS version roll out but we can confirm that no other user has informed us about the specific issues you’re experiencing right now. We tried scouring the net for reports from other third party forums and support sites that may confirm if your problems are common among devices running iOS 10.3.3 but we are not successful. We think they may be isolated to your device, which means that they may be caused by contents or apps unique to your phone. To fix the issues, we recommend that you do the things below:
Install the latest app updates
A lot of times, minor bugs following an iOS update are caused by apps. Be sure that you only install apps that are supported by or compatible with your iOS version. Keep in mind that not all apps receive the same level of care and maintenance. If you tend to install apps impulsively, now is the time to check if all of them are from a reputable or competent developers. Go over each app and check their App Store installation page for possible hints that it may be problematic. Some good developers will indicate if their product is compatible with the latest OS update. Alternatively, you can also check the reviews of other users like you to see if they also experience the same or similar troubles.
If you recently installed an app prior to experiencing the problems, start with that app. If necessary, try to uninstall it and see it fixes the problems.
Reset the settings
In some cases, resetting all settings of an iPhone can fix problems so you don’t want to skip that. If you haven’t tried doing this troubleshooting step at this time, kindly do the following:
- From the Home screen, go to Settings>General>Reset.
- Tap Reset All Settings.
- If presented, enter the passcode.
- Tap Reset All Settings to confirm.
- Wait until the phone has completely reset everything.
- Restart your device.
Restore all settings to factory defaults
iOS troubleshooting is simple. If the problems continue after updating apps and resetting all settings, the next best thing to do is to wipe the phone clean, also known as factory reset. Here’s how:
- Connect your iPhone to your computer with the cable that came with your phone.
- We assume you remember your phone’s passcode so simply enter it when you’re prompted for it.
- Select your iPhone once iTunes asks you for the specific device.
- Once you’re in the Summary panel or screen, select the option that will restore your device (Restore).
- Confirm by clicking on Restore button.
- Wait for a few moments while iTunes restores your device to its factory settings. It may also take some time if iTunes will need to install an updated operating system version.
- After this factory reset, all software settings should be restored to their defaults.
Problem 2: iPhone 6 plus keeps buffering, opening apps on its own, calling contacts on its own
My iPhone 6 Plus keeps freezing completely, it keeps buffering, opening apps and calling people. I’ve already restarted my phone and the screen is still frozen even after restarting, while lines come on at the top of the screen. No I have not wet my phone and I have not dropped it where it should be this kind of problem.
Also I keep turning it off and on back again and again but nothing seems to work. If you could please help that would be great thank you. — Karla
Solution: Hi Karla. If you are positive that you haven’t caused any hardware damage to the phone, then your problem must be caused by a software issue. It may be an app or update that you install recently so try to roll back what you did. If you happen to install an app lately, consider removing it from the system by doing the following steps:
- On the Home screen, tap and hold on the icon of the app.
- When the icons start to wiggle, tap the X in the corner of the application you wish to uninstall.
- Tap Delete.
If the problems occurred after installing an update, the best thing to do is to restore all settings to factory defaults. Please refer to the steps above on how to do it.
Alternatively, you can restore all software and apps back to stock. There’s a chance that the problem is being caused by a third party app or a coding issue with the current iOS version. Since there’s no way of knowing which of these two may be happening, the only thing that you can do is return everything to the way your phone was, when there are no third party apps. If you haven’t tried it, here’s how:
- Open Settings app.
- Tap General.
- Tap Reset.
- Tap Erase All Content and Settings.
- If prompted, enter your passcode.
- Tap Erase iPhone.
Both Restore and Erase iPhone options will result to data loss so be sure to back your files up to iTunes or to iCloud before doing them.
Keep in mind that the problem may return after a Restore or Reset if the main reason is a bad app. If that happens, uninstall apps one by one and make sure to observe how your phone works. This will take time if you have a lot of installed apps but this is the only effective method of identifying the culprit.
Problem 3: iPhone 6 won’t turn on after user interrupted update via iTunes
Hello. I have a problem with my phone about a month ago. First the wifi stopped working, the wifi turn on option greyed out so I could not turn it on. I tried to restore the network settings but this did not work. Finally I tried to restore it to its factory settings on iTunes. I had it plugged in to my laptop and iTunes downloaded the latest software to restore it. Whilst it was downloading I plugged it out of the laptop to check something and rest is back down unplugged. Next time I picked it up it screen was blank/black and unresponsive. I tried everything. I tried plugging it back into itunes but itunes does not recognize it, I tried to force start it but it remains unresponsive. Can you somehow tell me what’s wrong with it? I am guessing it is a motherboard issue. — Shari
Solution: Hi Shari. Interrupting a device while it’s updating, whether by intentionally unplugging it or when it loses power on its own usually result to bad things. In a lot of cases, it can lead to a permanent motherboard issue due to a corrupted storage device (Nand eMMC). This is the main reason why manufacturers consistently advise users to ensure that their device is fully charged or has enough battery levels before installing an update.
At this time, we don’t know the true status of your device. If it doesn’t respond at all, or if it appears to be unresponsive, the only thing that you can do is try a Device Firmware Upgrade (DFU) update. Here’s how:
- Turn off your iPhone. If you can’t turn it off because the screen is not working, wait until the battery is fully drained until the phone turns off by itself.
- If you waited for the battery to drain, make sure to charge the phone for at least 30 more minutes.
- In your computer, make sure that iTunes is running.
- Once your phone is turned off, connect it to your computer via a lightning cable.
- Press and hold down the Power button on the handset for three seconds.
- While still holding down the Power button, press and hold the lower Volume button for about 10 seconds. Make sure that you time it properly since holding the power button too long may simply restart the device.
- After about 10 seconds, release the Power button. Make sure not to release the Volume down button together with the Power button. Wait for about 5 more seconds after releasing the power button before you release the Volume Down button.
- If you performed the process correctly, your computer should display “iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes.” message.
- You can now start the Restore process by clicking on Restore iPhone button.
Remember, if the screen remains dark or unresponsive during and after the entire DFU update process, you must send the phone to an Apple service center.
