iPhone 6S Turns On And Off After Performing Software Update

Problem: Hi, I have a iPhone 6s, which was working absolutely fine until the other day it decided to update itself while charging overnight, but instead of updating normally I was woken by my phone repeated turning itself off and on. It had brief pauses where it would be on for several seconds fully loaded before it turned itself off again. After a while of this black horizontal lines began to appear when the apple logo came up. In order to get it to stop I tried holding the menu button and power button but this failed. I then tried to plug it into iTunes to do an update. After a few attempts plugging it into iTunes seemed to stop it and keep the phone on, without any lines on the screen. However when looking under updates it still had updates left to do which I decided to avoid as I wasn’t sure what would happen. A few weeks have passed since this incident, but today for the first time since it I decided to turn my phone off. Bad mistake – after trying to power it back up my phone decided to turn itself on and off again repeatedly after a while black horizontal lines appeared with the apple logo again, and as it proceeded to turn off and on it eventually went to a fully blue screen for seconds before again turning off and on. This time I did not interfere and instead watched it, eventually it managed to keep itself on and seemed stable. But I am worried that this will happen whenever my phone turns off and that I will be unable to update or that in general my phone will just stop working. There is nothing that has caused this my phone is very looked after and rarely dropped (not dropped around this time) Please tell me if you know what this is or have advice as to how to fix it/ prevent it.   (Have guessed on ios as I wasn’t sure – but it is only missing the most recent update)

Solution: Sometimes some glitches can occur during an update process. Although it may seem like the phone will not operate anymore there are several troubleshooting steps that you can do to fix the issue.

  • Do a hard reset. This is done by pressing the Sleep/Wake and Home button simultaneously for at least 10 seconds. The phone should restart normally after this.
  • Put your phone in recovery mode then set up your phone again.  To do this connect your phone to a computer with the latest version of  iTunes running. When the phone is connected force a restart. You do this by pressing and holding both the power button and the sleep/wake button for at least 10 seconds. Do not release the buttons when you see the Apple logo. Only release the button when you see the recovery mode screen. When you get the option to restore or update your phone choose update. iTunes will reinstall the OS without erasing your data.
