How to Fix Apple iPhone 6 Apps stuck on “Waiting” status during download, install, and update processes

  1. Reboot your phone.

  1. Sign out and in to the App Store.

Sometimes, such problems can arise due to server errors. For example the App Store and other Apple services are experiencing technical difficulties (outages) or servers for these services are temporarily down. In this case, you can try signing out from the App Store and then sign in again at a later time. Here’s how it works:

  • Go to your iPhone Settings.
  • Tap Store (App Store).
  • Tap Apple ID.
  • Tap Sign Out.
  • Open the App Store on your iPhone.
  • Navigate to the Featured
  • Scroll down to the bottom of the screen.
  • Tap Sign In.
  • Select Use Existing Apple ID.
  • Log In to your account.

The stuck apps should now reset.

  1. Switch wireless network.

Considering the problem is triggered by the network, you can try using a different Wi-Fi network and see if it works. To determine if the problem is network-related, you can also try to bypass your connection or access the Internet via wired connection. Here’s how:

  • Connect your iPhone to a computer (Mac or Windows PC) using a compatible USB cable.
  • Open iTunes.
  • Wait for the computer to recognize your iPhone. It should appear in the iTunes DEVICES section.
  • On the right side of iTunes, locate and click the Apps tab. A list of apps will appear on the left, along with the labels Install, Remove, and Update. If you see an Install button, it means the app is not yet installed. Click on it to install the app. If the app is labeled with Remove, it means it’s currently installed and clicking on that button will delete or uninstall the app. Apps that are labeled with Update means updates are available for the said apps and tapping on the Update button will initiate and apply the update.
  • Finally, on the bottom-right of iTunes, locate and click the Sync button.
  1. Remove and re-install the app later.

When you see the apps are stuck in the updating or installing status within the App Store, try to do these:

  • Go to your iPhone Home screen.
  • Press and hold on the stuck app icon.
  • When the icon starts to wobble, tap the X on the app icon.

Alternatively, you can:

  • Go to your iPhone Settings-> General-> Usage-> tap on the stuck app under Storage-> tap the Delete App button-> re-download the app from the App Store.

That should restart the installation or updating process.

  1. Verify or configure network settings.

Generally, app updates are done through Wi-Fi only. And in most iDevices, the “Use Cellular Data” switch is disabled by default, preventing users from downloading apps or updates to apps via 3G/LTE network. If Wi-Fi is not working, then you can try to use cellular data for apps update or install. All you have to do is enable the option to Use Cellular Data on your iPhone. To do so, go to Settings-> iTunes & App Store -> Scroll down and enable the option to Use Cellular Data.
