iPhone 6S Front Camera Not Working

Problem: One sunny 85 degree day, I Left my Iphone face up on the porch railing. It was left there for about 2 maybe 3 hours. When I got it later, I tried to send my friend a snapchat and it wouldn’t switch to the front camera. So I tried the regular camera, the back one worked but when switched to front facing camera it went black.

Solution: Just like any other electronic device the iPhone 6S can get affected by heat. As per Apple’s suggestion the phone is best used within the temperature range of 0º and 35º C (32º to 95º F). If the phone is subjected to a very low or very high temperature then it’s very likely that some components inside the phone could get affected. In this case, you are having a problem with the front camera after leaving the phone in the sun for 2 to 3 hours. While this is still an acceptable temperature range Apple has some other requirements when using the phone in high or low temperature environments which we have listed below.

  • Leaving the device in a car on a hot day.
  • Leaving the device in direct sunlight for an extended period of time.
  • Using certain features in hot conditions or direct sunlight for an extended period of time, such as GPS tracking or navigation in a car, or playing a graphics-intensive game.

What you need to do in this case is to turn off your phone and let it cool down first. Make sure to move it away from direct sunlight and place it in a cooler environment. Once the device has cooled down turn it on then check if the front camera is working.

If it still doesn’t work I suggest you have the phone checked at an authorized service center.
