Welcome to the 12th part in our series of troubleshooting articles dedicated to the iPhone 6 Plus. A lot of people consider this as the best iPhone model released so far. This may be due to its large display 5.5 inch full HD display, its powerful hardware, modern iOS 8 software, or a combination of all three. Whatever the reason, this device has delivered what is expected of it and this can be seen from the number of models sold so far.

iPhone 6 Plus Consumes Lots Of Data

Problem: A few months ago, I upgraded to the iPhone 6 Plus. Since upgrading I have been burning through an insane amount of data. I am using my phone no differently than I had used my phones in the past. Verizon was able to look up my usage and see abnormal usage, like my phone using 2.5 GB of data in one split second. They had no explanation for why this is happening, so they tried switching out my SIM card with a new one. But that apparently did not work as I am still having this problem. I can’t continue on having $600-$800 phone bills because of crazy data charges. Does anyone have ANY suggestions for what might be causing this problem? I am contemplating a trip to the Apple Store to have the Genius’s at the Genius Bar take a look at it.

Solution: Consuming 2.5GB of data in a split second is definitely not normal. This looks like an issue in the network side. In your end though what you can do is to restore your phone and set it up as a new phone. Do not install any apps yet instead observe it and monitor its data usage first.

Before restoring your phone

  • Make sure you’re using the latest version of iTunes.
  • Use iTunes to back up your device. Transfer and sync any additional content to your computer.
  • Turn off Find My iPhone in Settings > iCloud on your device to disable Activation Lock.

Restoring your phone

  • Connect your iOS device to your computer using the cable that came with it.
  • Select your iPhone when it appears in iTunes. In the Summary panel, click Restore.
  • Click Restore again to confirm that you want to restore your device to factory settings and delete all data and content. iTunes will download the iOS software file and restore your iOS device.
  • After your iOS device is restored to factory settings, it will restart. Once it does, you’ll see the “Slide to set up” welcome screen. Follow the steps in the iOS Setup Assistant. You can set up your device as new.

If things look normal then install one app and continue monitoring your data usage. Continue this procedure until you have installed all your apps or you reach a point where your data usage spikes after installing a certain app.

If the issue still persists then have your phone checked at the nearest Apple Store.

iPhone 6 Plus Flickers When Playing Videos

Problem: iphone 6 plus video is flickering when playing a video. please help how to fix?

Solution: What video player are you using? Try to force close the app then start it again.

  • Press the Home button two times quickly. You’ll see small previews of your recently used apps.
  • Swipe left to find the app you want to close.
  • Swipe up on the app’s preview to close it.

If that does not solve the problem then do a restart

  • Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears.
  • Drag the slider to turn your device completely off.
  • After the device turns off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until you see the Apple logo.

If the issue persists reset your phone

  • Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.

iPhone 6 Plus Messages App Freezes / Crashes

Problem: The problem seems to be getting worse, I don’t know what triggers it but right when I need it the messages app freezes to load and gives me a new message screen, then when I type in my contacts name it goes to no name. I have to reset my phone at least a minimum of 5 times a day to remedy the problem. Now I’m contemplating if I need to carry my iPad instead of my phone for reliability. Hope for a fix soon.

Solution: If resetting your phone does not resolve this issue then you have to restore your phone and set it up as a new device.

Before restoring your phone

  • Make sure you’re using the latest version of iTunes.
  • Use iTunes to back up your device. Transfer and sync any additional content to your computer.
  • Turn off Find My iPhone in Settings > iCloud on your device to disable Activation Lock.

iPhone 6 Plus Accessory Not Supported

Problem: My iphone 6 plus has recently starting displaying ” this accessory may not be supported” when I plug in a charging cable. I have 4 or 5 charging cables that all used to work without issue on this phone an now all display this message. What’s interesting is if I reboot my phone the cables will all work and charge the phone normally without displaying the message. Then the following evening the message will be displayed again. I have been having to reboot my phone every evening to be able to charge it. My ios software is fully up to date. Any help would be appreciated. thanks

Solution: You have to make sure to use Apple certified accessories to avoid getting this error message. If you are using Apple certified accessories then follow the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Look at the connector at the bottom of your device and make sure it’s free of debris.
  • If you’re using a USB power adapter, make sure it’s plugged in all the way and the power outlet is working. If you’re connecting to a computer, make sure it’s on and can charge your device.
  • Try a different USB cable, USB power adapter, or USB port.

If the problem persists then have your phone checked at the nearest Apple Store.

iPhone 6 Plus Screen Cracked On Its Own

Problem: I have had my iPhone 6 plus for about 6 months and a couple of days ago I noticed that there is a diagonal crack. I did not drop or hit the phone. I totally have no clue of how or why it happened. I took it to the apple store and they want me to pay for fixing it. They said that there is no way for them to know whether I did or did not drop it and hence they assume the worst case scenario and the only way is to pay for fixing it. I’m really upset as I just feel that it is utterly unfair to pay for something that you did not do. Has anybody had a similar issue?

Solution: The screen on the iPhone 6 plus uses an ion-strengthened glass and does not crack on its own. Somehow pressure may have been applied to the phone causing the crack to occur on the display.

iPhone 6 Plus turns Off When 9% Battery Left

Problem: I’ve tried all the calibration methods and none of them worked for me. The phone is dying at 9-10% battery left and doesn’t wake up till charger is plugged. When the charger is pluggin in, the phone immidatelly turn on with 9% battery left- which is wrong because the phone dying again if the charger plug off. I reset my phone softly and hardky to factory default. nothing help!

Solution:  Did you try to restore your phone already and set it up as a new device? If not, then try to do it first.

Before restoring your phone

iPhone 6 Plus Top Screen Overheating

Problem: The top part of the screen on my iPhone 6 plus is overheating while using the phone. The lower half of the screen remains cool to the touch. Is anyone else having the same issue?

Solution: A lot of people have also experienced this very same issue. If your phone is processing a lot of information then it is normal for it to heat up. Activities such as syncing data online, playing games, and opening lots of apps just to name a few can contribute to your phone heating up. Try using a case on your phone if the heat bothers you however if the heat burns your hand then you should consider restoring your phone and setting it up as a new device.

Before restoring your phone

  • Make sure you’re using the latest version of iTunes.
  • Use iTunes to back up your device. Transfer and sync any additional content to your computer.
  • Turn off Find My iPhone in Settings > iCloud on your device to disable Activation Lock.

iPhone 6 Plus Acts Erratically

Problem: Sometimes If the Phone has been on charge for a bit, and I attempt to use it, the phone acts like it can’t track my fingers properly and presses buttons that I do not press, randomly double-clicks the home button without it being physically touched, switches between apps randomly, and I lose progress in some apps, like missing notifications from Facebook, etc….  This has been a problem since I’ve owned it.  Going from iOS 8.1.3 to current.  Has anyone else experienced such issues? it makes texting and communicating hard when I can’t type a proper message or the messages get sent randomly before their completed.

Solution: Try restarting your phone and if that does not help then do a quick reset.

Restart

  • Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears.
  • Drag the slider to turn your device completely off.
  • After the device turns off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until you see the Apple logo.

Reset

  • Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.

This may also be an issue caused by the electrical outlet in your home especially if it has poor grounding. Try charging your phone in a different outlet (preferably in another location) and see if the issue still remains. You should also try to use a different charger if the issue persists.

If the problem still remains then bring your phone to the nearest Apple Store and have it checked.

iPhone 6 Plus Siri Not Responding

Problem: I’m not sure if it’s due to the new update, that my Siri stopped responding to me. I try to speak to Siri, but the line of “sound” doesn’t move. Someone please help me.

Solution: Try the following troubleshooting steps listed below to resolve this issue. Move to the next step if the issue persists.

  • Make sure the microphones aren’t blocked.
  • If you’re using a case, try removing it.
  • Try turning your device off and then on again.
  • If you’re using an audio device that connects using the Dock Connector, Siri won’t route through that device. You’ll need to use your device, wired headset, or Bluetooth headset to interact with Siri.
  • If you’re using your iOS device with a device that uses a Remote User Interface, make sure that you interact with your iOS device using the car stereo or other device. If you try to use the touchscreen, Siri or Voice Control won’t work.

iPhone 6 Plus Touch ID Not Working

Problem: II’ve tried everything from cleaning my fingers to cleaning my phone. I have restarted it and have tried several times to put a new fingertip!!! What do I do???

Solution: If the Touch ID of your phone is not working then try to follow the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Make sure that you’re using the latest version of iOS.
  • Make sure that your fingers and the Home button are clean and dry.*
  • Cover the Home button completely. Don’t tap too quickly, don’t press down hard, and don’t move your finger while Touch ID is scanning. Make sure that your finger touches the metal ring around the Home button.
  • If you’re using a case or screen protector, make sure it doesn’t cover the Home button or the surrounding ring. If it does, remove the case or screen protector and try again.
  • Tap Settings > Touch ID & Passcode and make sure that iPhone Unlock or iTunes & App Store is on. Also make sure that you’ve enrolled one or more fingerprints.
