iPhone 6 Calls Can’t Be Heard

Problem: When I make a call, occasionally (1 out of 6 outgoing calls) the person I’m calling can’t hear me. I’ve checked the microphone using the voice memo app. In the settings I’ve changed the “Enable LTE” setting to data only and I’ve turned off noise cancellation. Doing this still hasn’t fixed it. Has anyone else had this issue?  It’s getting really annoying.

Solution: In most cases that deal with calls that can’t be heard by the other party the most likely culprit is your network, especially if the problem occurs randomly.

Try to determine first if the issue occurs in a specific area or in no particular area at all. If it only occurs in a specific area then the most likely reason is a network coverage issue.

If you have another SIM then insert it in your phone and see if the problem still occurs. You can also insert your original SIM in another phone and check if your calls can be heard.

Other troubleshooting steps that needs to be done is to restart the phone. A reset is also recommended if the problem persists.

Restart

  • Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears.
  • Drag the slider to turn your device completely off.
  • After the device turns off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until you see the Apple logo.

Reset

  • Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.

iPhone 6 Slow Response After Downloading Calendar App

Problem: All of a sudden, my iPhone 6 slowed so much it takes 10+ seconds to open most apps.  I had DL’d a beta of the calendar app I use, along with Apple’s TestFlight, which is about when everything slowed down.  I have deleted the beta and TestFlight and not seeing any difference, even after the IOS 8.2 upgrade. I’m thinking I need to do a full restore to see what happens. Has anyone else seen this or have an idea as to what could cause it?  The phone has 8.7GB RAM available of the 128GB, so it’s not a memory issue.

Solution: You will need to do a reset of your phone and see if the slow response issue goes away.

  • Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.

If the problem persists then restore your phone to its original factory settings. Just make sure to back up your data first.

  • Connect your iOS device to your computer using the cable that came with it.
  • Select your iPhone when it appears in iTunes. In the Summary panel, click Restore.
  • Click Restore again to confirm that you want to restore your device to factory settings and delete all data and content. iTunes will download the iOS software file and restore your iOS device.
  • After your iOS device is restored to factory settings, it will restart. Once it does, you’ll see the “Slide to set up” welcome screen. Follow the steps in the iOS Setup Assistant. You can set up your device as new.

iPhone 6 Battery Drains On Standby

Problem: Hello.  So I’ve had an IPhone 6 for several months now which is still under warranty.  A few days ago, I noticed that the battery was draining at a much faster rate than usual, even on standby.  I think the rate at which the battery drains during standby is the same as when I’m actually using it, but I’m not sure.  I thought at first that it was related to IOS version, so I upgraded from 8.1.2 to 8.1.3.  No change.  As of now I’m running 8.2, but I’m still seeing high battery drain.  On standby, the battery drains at a rate of ~10%/hour, meaning I can’t take it to work without bringing my adapter too.  While charging, I’ve also noticed an unusual amount of heat. Another strange thing I’ve noticed is that, unless I use portrait lock, some apps like Safari will immediately go to landscape mode even if I’m not holding it horizontally, and rotating the phone doesn’t fix it.  Both of these issues persisted even after I updated IOS, hard rebooted, turned on/off, and did full resets.  I also tried signing out of ICloud, but that doesn’t seem to have changed anything. Anyone else suffer these problems?  Will probably have the phone looked at later this week.

Solution:  The first thing that needs to be done is to check which apps are using the most battery life. You can do this by going to Settings > General > Usage > Battery Usage. Here you will see a list of apps with the percentage amount that they are using.

An app may use a lot of battery life for the following reasons.

  • The app is being constantly used by you..
  • The app is being used in the background. It could be downloading content, uploading content, using location services or streaming audio.
  • The app is being used in an area with poor cellular service. When this happens, it puts more work on the battery and drains it quickly.
  • The app is not working properly. For example the app can be constantly crashing. Or the app you barely use, but yet it is at the top of the list.

If you see an app on top of the list that you barely even use then this may be causing the battery drain problem. Try to check if this app has any update. You should also try to uninstall the app then observe if the battery drain problem still exists.

Take note also that if you are in an area with a weak signal your phone will use more battery life just to stay on the network.  Ty going to a different area, preferably one serviced by another cell site, and see if the battery life of your phone improves.

If the problem persists then try to reset your phone.

  • Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.

iPhone 6 Types On Its Own

Problem: I would like to ask if anyone had this issue, if yes what is the solution? The problem that I am facing is with my iPhone 6 is that it is typing by itself, it is shuffling between apps without me using it. I have asked around and the replies that I received mentioned that the phone might have a virus, which is causing for the phone to be weird. P.s my phone has the latest update, but the issues with the phone happened before updating the latest update.

Solution:  It’s highly unlikely that this may be caused by a virus. If it were then new about an iPhone virus of this magnitude should be spreading by now. What I believe is that this may either be a software or hardware related problem.

To check if this is a software related problem a factory reset must be performed. Make sure to back up your phone data first as this will be deleted in the process.

If the problem still persists then this may already be hardware related. You should bring the phone to the nearest Apple Store for checking.

iPhone 6 Maximum Distance From Watch

Problem: How far away can you leave your iPhone and still have the watch respond?

Solution:  The range is the same as that of a Bluetooth connection which is 10 meters. If you will be using a Wi-Fi network then the range will depend on the wireless router.

iPhone 6 Does Not Turn On

Problem: I recently dropped my iPhone 6 in water, it was fully submerged for a very shot time. I turned the phone off and quickly ran to put it in some rice and let it sit for ~9 hours. I removed the pentalobe screws and removed the screen, I put the other part of the phone in rice for ~4 hours. I reassembled the phone and charged the phone overnight and it will not turn on. From when I inspected, the liquid indicators inside the phone were pink. Is the reason my phone won’t turn on is because the battery is shorted? Is there a way to test this? If that is not the battery, is there a way to turn the phone on? I have tried holding the home button and plugging it in. Thank you.

Solution: Opening the phone yourself may void its warranty and the Apple Store may not even service the phone anymore. If the liquid indicators are not white then the phone has obviously suffered some water damage. It’s going to be difficult to determine which part is defective. The best way to proceed is to bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it thoroughly checked.

iPhone 6 Does Not Turn On After Downloading App

Problem: So earlier today I went to download an App that somebody i knew had worked on making and wanted to test it out. But, as I had my finger print scanned for my password my phone started color shifting and it went to a pinkish/purple-ish color. It then proceeded to take over my screen and then it slowly faded to black. The screen since then has not turned on. I have tried nearly everything, except taking apart my phone because I still have a warranty. I’ve tried hand resets, DFU mode, recovery mode, restoring my phone, factory resetting, everything. I can’t use a back up to restore my phone and I don’t really know what to do or what is wrong. Can somebody please help! iPhone 6 Space Grey 16 Gb. I have had it since November of 2014. It has not been dropped into any water or liquids to my knowledge and has only been dropped with a case on; no screen shattering, or chipping of any sort. And also when it happened, all of the data on my phone was recognized as “Other” in iTunes. Anytime trying to restore from a back up, iTunes gives me a message that says, “iTunes could not restore the iPhone “****’s iPhone” because an error occurred. I also want to mention that whenever I have my phone plugged into my computer that it constantly vibrates out of random. I thank you all in advance for any help!

Solution:  It looks like the app may have corrupted your phone’s operating system. If you have tried all forms of troubleshooting steps then your best option right now is to bring the phone to the nearest Apple Store for repair.

iPhone 6 Apple Mobile Service Not Working

Problem: hi, from some reason when I plug my iphone 6 to my computer, I get this message-“Apple mobile device service could not be started because an unknown error occurred (1058)”.and then I get a follow up message-“this iphone cannot be used because the apple mobile device service is not started”. I followed the orders in the website how to start the apple mobile service, but I get this message-“the apple mobile device service on local computer started and then stopped. some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs”. I tried again and again to start the apple mobile service but it’s just stop in the middle and I get this message. I reinstalled itunes twice but it’s still doesn’t work. please help me I’m desperate!

Solution:  You will need to uninstall iTunes and its related components first from the control panel of your computer then do a restart.

Uninstall the following software in order.

  • iTunes
  • Apple Software Update
  • Apple Mobile Device Support
  • Bonjour
  • Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)

Once you have finished uninstalling then go to the Apple website and download the latest version of iTunes.
