iPhone 4 Black Screen

Problem: Hi, my partners iphone 4 has all of a sudden got a black screen. When i plug the charge lead in i get the charging sound and if i click the on and home buttons at the same time the camera takes a black picture.I plugged it into her pc and the iPhone displays as a removable disc in the list so i can then see the black pictures it has taken. When the iPhone is plugged into iTunes it is not recognised i am fearing the worst and it seems like it has reached its end. Any help will be gratefully received.

Solution: On common problem of the iPhone 4 that you may encounter is that it will have a black screen but it seems to work since a sound can still be heard. The sound you hear is an indication that the battery is still working so the troubleshooting steps to be done should concentrate on the device itself.

The first thing that you need to do is to reset your device. This simple step can actually resolve various issues that a phone is experiencing. To reset your phone simply hold the Home and Sleep buttons at the same time fro 10 seconds until you see the Apple logo appear on screen. Once the Apple logo appears release both buttons. Your phone should boot up properly.

If the reset does not work then you will have to restore your phone to it original factory settings using iTunes. Since you mentioned that your phone is not recognized by iTunes you will have to force your phone into recovery mode.

To place your phone in recovery mode.

  • Turn off your device and leave it off.

  • Plug in your device’s USB cable to a computer with iTunes.

  • Hold down the Home button on your device as you connect the USB cable. Keep holding down the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.

  • When you see this screen, release the Home button. If you don’t see this screen, try steps 1 through 3 again.

  • When your device is connected, iTunes will open. You’ll see a message saying that iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode.

Make sure that you have a backup of your phone data before restoring your phone.

  • Connect your iOS device to your computer using the cable that came with it.

  • Select your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch when it appears in iTunes. In the Summary panel, click Restore.

  • Click Restore again to confirm that you want to restore your device to factory settings and delete all data and content. iTunes will download the iOS software file and restore your iOS device.

  • After your iOS device is restored to factory settings, it will restart. Once it does, you’ll see the “Slide to set up” welcome screen. Follow the steps in the iOS Setup Assistant. You can set up your device as new.

iPhone 4 Can’t Download iOS 7.1.2

Problem: My phone is running on iOS 5.1.1 but unable to download iOS 7.1.2. how do I get this version?

Solution: If your phone can’t get the update using a wireless connection then you will have to use iTunes to get it. You will need to install the latest version of iTunes in your computer then connect your phone to it.

  • Install the latest version of iTunes on your computer.

  • Plug in your device to your computer.

  • In iTunes, select your device.

  • In the Summary pane, click Check for Update.

  • Click Download and Update. If you don’t have enough free space to update using iTunes, you’ll need to delete content manually from your device.

iPhone 4 Battery Not Charging

Problem: My battery in my Iphone 4 not charging, but the icon on top right corner shows charging battery. Then when I click button to take it out of standby and it shows about 35% charge and it is been charging for 8+ hours.

Solution: When it takes a long time to charge your phone battery there could be three causes. One, a software glitch may be causing your phone to misread the actual charge of your battery. Second, the charger may be faulty. Third, the battery itself may be faulty already.

To check for software related causes perform the following troubleshooting steps below. Move on to the next step if the issue remains unresolved.

Restart your phone

  • Press and hold both the Sleep button and Home button until the iPhone shuts down, ignore the slide to power off option which will pop up on screen, just keep pressing the Sleep and Home buttons. Once your phone starts the process has completed.

Check the USB cable

  • In some cases a phone will not charge properly if the USB cable has an issue. Try using another USB cable and observe if your phone charges properly with it. If it does then the cable you are using is the cause of the problem.

Check your wall charger

  • The wall charger you are using may already be defective. If you have another wall charger then try using it on your phone.

Check your battery

  • The last part of your phone to check is the battery if all else fails to resolve the issue. You should try replacing your phone battery with a new one as this may be causing the issue.

iPhone 4 No Option to Enter PIN

Problem: My iphone was stolen and deleted in find iphone. I got it back and try to restore. It stops when i should enter my pin. There is no option to enter the digits. What do i do?

Solution: You should try to restore your phone in recovery mode.

  • Use iTunes to restore your device. Restoring in recovery mode will erase your device. If you previously synced with iTunes or iCloud, you might be able to restore from your backup.

iPhone 4 Stuck in Recovery Mode After Update

Problem: I have an iPhone 4 (GSM) that I never synced or updated. No backup anywhere. Never connected to iTunes, just plugged it in the wall to charge it, and never lost it. I’m generally a careful person.

I had been running one of the iOS 6 versions, not sure which now since my phone won’t let me in. Yesterday I decided to update since I was having trouble viewing something in an app and figured a more recent OS may help.

I downloaded and installed the iOS 7.0.4 update. From what I could tell, the update was working. There was an Apple on my screen with a status bar underneath. It seemed to be taking a long time, but I just let it do its thing. This was around 8 p.m. EST last night.

Right now and since then, the phone is stuck on a screen that says “Connect to iTunes” with a USB cord icon and the iTunes logo. When I connect it to iTunes on my PC, it says that my phone is in recovery mode and must be restored.

I don’t want to restore my phone since I never did any data backup. I am most concerned about losing photos and videos, but also contacts and everything else. Obviously, I would’ve if I anticipated even a slight possibility of the update failing. However, there was no disclaimer on the update, and I sincerely did not expect an issue.

I spoke with Apple iPhone Tech Support this morning. They were very friendly and tried to be helpful, but basically said that since I’ve never synced my device to iTunes or iCloud, I have no other option but to restore the device and lose the data. The representative did say that I am welcome to try third-party data recovery services, but Apple is unable to to recommend or endorse any such services.

I have done a lot of research about this in these past 18 or so hours, but it is very hard to tell if any of these sites offering data recovery are really worth trying. They look like scams, viruses, malware, etc. Like those fun ads you see – 38-Year-Old Mom Finds This One Weird Trick Insurance Companies Don’t Want You To Know – you get the idea.

If there are legitimate options for getting the phone out of recovery mode and/or legitimate third-party data recovery services then please share them with me and I will research them and give them a try.

However, if this is spilled milk which I must stop crying over, then please tell me and I will suck it up, restore the device, and move on with my life.

Thank you for your time and insight.

Solution: Unfortunately there are no effective third party data recovery services that I could recommend. The best thing that you can do if you want to revive your phone is to restore it using iTunes.

iPhone 4 Not Working After Brought to Shower

Problem: I had my phone in the bathroom while I was taking a shower and i got out went to my room turned on the flashlight and then it turned off and it was at 92 percent and it wont connect to the computer charge and the home button doesn’t work.

Solution: It looks like water may have entered your device. Your phone may not have been dropped in water but the condensation of water in the bathroom has entered your phone and is causing it to act this way.

To resolve this issue you should turn off your phone and immerse it in uncooked rice or silica gel for 48 hours. The uncooked rice or silica gel will absorb the moisture in your phone.

Turn on your phone and see if it works normally. If the problem still persists then the moisture may have affected some hardware components in your phone. If this is the case then you should bring your phone to an authorized service center for repair.

iPhone Error 0xE8000004 When Trying to Activate

Problem: Hi there. Two days ago I restore my iPhone 4 GSM from iTunes and when trying to activate it, I get the message Error 0xE80000004. I can not activate my iPhone 4 using wifi connection because asks me directly connect to iTunes and after displaying the error is not active and does not let me do anything. I have restored my iPhone 4 from several PCs and always I get the same error when trying to activate it. Can anyone help me please?

Solution: You should try connecting your phone to a different computer running iTunes. You should also use a different USB cord. If that doesn’t work then this may already be a hardware related issue concerning your phone. If this is the case then you should bring your phone to an authorized service center for checking.
